High Performance Exhaust

We have received a lot of calls concerning after market exhaust systems. Here are some of the most common questions and answers.

Q: How much horsepower will I gain using the Gil exhaust system?

A: This varies depending on your engine, but overall 6-10% seems to be the average.

Q: Will this increase the speed of my boat?

A: It's hard to say how much of an increase, because every boat reacts differently to horsepower. Some will experience a considerable increase in the amount of speed where others will not notice as much.

Q: What is the life expectancy of a Gil exhaust system?

A: If properly maintained, it should last for many years. We have seen 10-12 year old manifolds that have been running in saltwater that still look and operate as new.

Q: Is there really much of a weight difference between Gil exhaust and Factory exhaust?

A: Depending on which system you have you could easily save 70-100 lbs.

Q: What makes the Gil exhaust system better than the original equipment?

A: Here are two reasons:

We do not pass water through the gasket surface between the manifold and the riser.

Our equipment is also more corrosion resistant than the original equipment.

These are just two reasons why Gil exhaust systems are better than the original equipment, and there are many more, but we don't have enough room to fit them all on this Tech Tip.
